In this class, I was faced with many challenges, some were definitely not my top ten. Even though there were many assignments given out each week, I still loved the class, From the atmosphere to the topics we discussed, I loved it all. If I could change one thing about the class, it would have to be the amount of time we spend talking about Shakespeare. As a student who doesn’t understand the language very easily, I find it very irritating that so much time is taken up by this topic, especially if no one uses it anymore. Although, Mrs Linnerth did make grade eleven a year to remember. She was extremely kind and understanding when it came to assignments along with personal complications that could have an impact on your school work. For me, Mrs. Linnerth helped with a lot of things, whether it be my anxiety about something or my lack of focus, she helped me get through this class. Moving on, let’s talk about seating plans. Often times in a new class the teacher gives a new seating plan and enforces the students follow it. However, in my English class we had a basic layout of where everyone sat. It first started out as everyone had their own desk, but by the end, we had all migrated to a different spot in the class. Most of the time it was done at the beginning of the period. Due to the fact that most teachers don’t like friends sitting together, we all thought she was going to say something about it. In my case, I found it very useful to be sitting right beside one of my very close friends, it gave me a source of comfort to be sitting beside Isabel, to me she was someone I could bounce all my ideas off of, someone who would keep me on track and most importantly someone I could rely on. Group projects, I used to despise them, once I was sitting with my friends I began to love them. To break it down, these are the reasons why Grade eleven english, taught by Mrs. Linnerth, will always be my favourite class I had at JHSS.
